On-demand list prices, Linux, the vendor’s main US or EU region (see notes). Fleets are built from one instance type. A vCPU is one hardware thread; rows marked shared sell oversubscribed vCPUs. Disks, backups and committed-use discounts (often 30–60% on hyperscalers) aren’t included.
Provider types (Hyperscaler & enterprise, Developer cloud, Budget & bare metal) group services by what they include, not by price. Hover a type for its definition, or see how we assign them.
Need EU residency? Turn on the EU filter to pick a plan that includes it, which may cost more. “EU plan available” alone does not mean the price shown includes residency. Shared links save your inputs and filters, but prices can change.

Servers & VPS pricing explained
What drives the bill
The bill depends on the price of a vCPU and a GB of RAM, whether those vCPUs are shared or dedicated, and egress. Hyperscalers (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) bill internet egress at around $80–120 per TB on first-tier rates. Many European hosts, such as Hetzner, OVHcloud and netcup, include several TB of traffic per server, or don’t meter it at all. At 10 TB a month, egress alone can cost more on a hyperscaler than the servers do elsewhere.
Bare metal can cost much less for steady workloads. Compare physical cores, hardware threads and shared vCPUs carefully, and allow for redundancy and hardware replacement.
Costs the calculator leaves out
- Block storage, snapshots and backups. Most providers bill these separately.
- Extra public IPv4 addresses. The listed instance prices include a mandatory primary IPv4 where applicable; additional addresses can cost more.
- Managed load balancers, NAT gateways and traffic between regions or zones.
- Committed-use and reserved-instance discounts, which can cut hyperscaler compute by 30–60% if you can commit for one to three years.
When paying more makes sense
Choose a hyperscaler when you need nearby managed databases, queues and IAM, autoscaling for spiky load, specific certifications or a region other hosts don’t serve. For steady Linux workloads with few cloud dependencies, test a cheaper host’s CPU performance, network and recovery options.
