SuperTokens (self-hosted)

Open-source SuperTokens core (Apache-2.0) run on your own servers with Postgres or MySQL. Core features free at any scale.

The core runs as a Java process on your servers, backed by Postgres or MySQL. Core features have no per-user fee, but you handle deployment and updates. Paid add-ons still apply when self-hosting: MFA costs $0.01 per monthly active user with a $100/month minimum, and enterprise SAML SSO needs a sales quote. Keycloak and authentik include SSO without that license fee.

Pricing

Operating cost not estimated · servers, licenses and engineering time are yours. See notes for software editions and license terms.

Self-hosted: budget for infrastructure, maintenance and any paid add-ons. The core is a small Java service; 1 vCPU / 1-2 GB RAM plus a managed Postgres handles a startup, and two 2 vCPU / 4 GB nodes behind a load balancer cover around 500k MAU. Data stays wherever you run it. Paid add-ons need a license key even when self-hosted: MFA $0.01/MAU (min $100/month), account linking $0.005/MAU (min $100/month), dashboard users $20/month each after 3. Enterprise SAML SSO (multi-tenancy) is a contact-sales add-on, so it is shown as not offered.

Managed alternatives

At 50K monthly active users, no enterprise SSO connections. Adjust usage and requirements.

SuperTokens has no bill to estimate: you pay for the servers, storage and time to run it. Clerk is free at this usage, so running SuperTokens yourself only makes sense for control or features, not cost.

The price difference leaves out migration costs, operating costs and any features you’d need to replace.

Self-hosted options

Operating cost is not estimated. These options are not counted as savings against managed services.
